Pterocarpans from the Stems and Leaves of Ochrosia elliptica

The genus Ochrosia (Apocynaceae), comprising about 39 species, consists of trees naturally distributed in tropical or subtropical Malaysia and west of the Pacific Islands, and three species of the genus are cultivated in Guangdong, Hainan, and Taiwan Provinces in China . This genus, as a good source of monoterpenoid indole alkaloids, especially the ellipticine derivatives with the anticancer activities, has attracted the attention of pharmacologists [2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]. As a Chinese introduced and cultivated medicinal plant, up to now, there is only a preliminary investigation on the chemical composition of O. elliptica performed by us previously . As an ongoing program to explore structural diversity and to screen bioactive natural products from tropical medicinal plants, the EtOAc extract of the stems and leaves of O. elliptica was investigated, which resulted in the isolation of eight known pterocarpans.
