Chemical Constituents of Marchantia paleacea
Marchantia species, which are widely used as medicinal plants in China to cure burns, bruises, external wounds, snake bite, etc. , have been studied, and many types of macrocyclic bis(bibenzyls) have been isolated . Macrocyclic bisbibenzyls are produced exclusively in liverworts with a broad range of interesting pharmacological activities, such as antifungal, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, anticancer, and skeletal muscle relaxing . Since then, the impressive variety of unusual new chemical entities from this genus continues to fascinate the scientific community for the unusual structures and the powerful biological activities [4, 5, 6]. Marchantia paleacea is a common thallus liverwort species known to produce a wide array of distinctive compounds and several bisbibenzyls .
