Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds Aims and scope

Heating of 2,2'-methylenedicyclohexanone diphenylhydrazone in diethylene glycol was shown to result in unexpected formation of a bridged polyheterocyclic compound with a previously unknown skeleton, the structure of which was established by spectral methods and X-ray structural analysis. An explanation has been provided for the peculiar course of this reaction leading to a tetracyclic product.
