Isolation of polymorphic microsatellite loci for the study of habitat fragmentation in the harvester ant Messor structor

Abstract

Microsatellite sequences of the harvester ant Messor structor were identified by use of an enriched genomic library. Populations from Austria, Germany and Croatia were screened and 4–21 alleles were identified within seven microsatellite loci. Cross species amplification was evaluated for three other Messor species.
