Research on high current pulse discharges at IPP ASci CR

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics Aims and scope

Abstract

The latest activities in the field of soft X-ray generation by pulse high-current discharges at IPP ASci CR are described. All these activities are aimed at amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) of multiply charged ions.

Device CAPEX is already lasing at 46.88 nm on Ne-like Ar ions. At present factors influencing its function are studied. Namely procedure of apparatus alignement with the help of miniature CCD camera displayed on computer monitor seems to be the best. A short life-time of the capillary made us not only to change construction enabling easier capillary replacement, but also to study processes responsible for this phenomenon.

Device CAPEX-U, larger and improved variant of CAPEX device, intended for studies of ASE at shorter wavelengths, is being assembled. At present the four-channel laser-triggered spark gap is adjusted and tested.

Device SHOW, water-filled experimental chamber with converging cylindrical shock wave, will replace (in one of variants) the capillary in CAPEX-U for wire explosion in water. At present pressure field near the shock wave focus is investigated.
