Abstract
The devitrification of Finemet-based glass-coated microwires has been investigated by differential thermal analysis (DTA) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). From the DTA, we have identified the crystallization of the non-magnetic phase during the first crystallization step in microwires. The precipitation of this non-magnetic phase can explain magnetic hardening of nanocrystalline microwires after heat treatment. The measurements are compared with the data of the Finemet-based ribbon in order to determine the effect of glass coating.
