Abstract
This study outlines some of the general guidelines that are suitable for the design and application of solvent extraction reagents particularly for the separation of actinides(III) and lanthanides. Some of the points in these guidelines concerning bonding in the primary co-ordination sphere of the cations are considered in more detail.
