Abstract
The self-attenuation factor, in γ-ray spectrometry expressing the fraction of photons prevented from registering in the full-energy peak by interactions with the sample material, is derived for well-type geometry for the case when the height of the sample is larger than its diameter. In the derivation the independence of the self-attenuation factor of detector properties is assumed. The factor is given in an analytical form as a function of the sample height, sample diameter and the linear attenuation coefficient of the sample material.
