Application of Natural Refrigerants in Refrigeration Plants

  • Published:
Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Aims and scope

This paper presents an analysis of losses in refrigeration units charged with various natural and synthetic refrigerants, including R134a, R404A, R1270, and R290, operated in a single-stage refrigeration cycle with a single throttling phase. The refrigerant boiling temperatures were 25°C, –18°C, and –13°C. Energy losses were calculated by the entropic and statistical method of thermodynamical analysis. The natural refrigerants R1270 and R290 were found to be promising for application in refrigeration plants. Recommendations on the use of natural refrigerants in refrigeration equipment are provided.
