Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Aims and scope

The paper considers the determination of the mass flow rate of a fluid in one working cycle of a positive displacement hybrid reciprocating power machine for three types of slot seals: smooth, stepped, and conic. Based on a theoretical study of the mass flows of fluid flowing from the pumping cavity to the compressor and back, with laminar fluid flow, a comparison of the efficiency of piston seals was carried out. It was found that the value of the ratio of fluid flow in the forward and reverse directions for a conic slot seal is significantly higher than that for smooth and stepped slot seals. This makes it possible to recommend a conic slot seal for use in positive displacement hybrid reciprocating power machines having a high discharge pressure in the compressor section and a low discharge pressure in the pumping section.
