The mechanism of formation of wear particles and the influence of the particles on the process of lapping of the wedges of gate valves are investigated. A series of experiments is performed in order to determine qualitative and quantitative estimates of wear particles that are formed during lapping of the parts of valves. The influence of the wear particles thus formed on the roughness of the surface of machined parts (Ra parameter) is determined.
