Efficiency of hydrodynamic devices in slot seals

  • Published:
Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Aims and scope

The problems of enhancing bearing force in shaft slot seals used widely in pumps and compressors are discussed. A procedure is proposed for calculating hydrodynamic grooves which enhance bearing force in the seals. An example of calculation is given. The proposed procedure can be used to tentatively solve the problem of determination of the influence of hydrodynamic grooves on the magnitude of radial forces generated in eccentric channels of shaft slot seals.
