Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Aims and scope

It is shown that a corona discharge can be used to ionize the working medium and form a space charge in the convective current in EGD compressor stages. An explanation is given to a first approximation of the formation of a negative unipolar space charge and convective current in the external discharge region with a negative corona and positive space charge, and a convective current in the external region of the discharge with the positive corona. A relationship is given for the pressure differences arising in the EGD compressor stages in terms of the convective current and electric field strength in the space between the electrodes.
