Abstract
The importance is noted of predicting the safe operating life of equipment used for a long time in a hydrogen sulfide containing atmosphere. The error in predicting the residual life of equipment is analyzed. A procedural approach is developed for determining the prolonged life taking account of the error in predicting residual life, the amount of monitoring of the technical condition and the severity of the consequences of possible breakdown, which makes it possible to provide implementation of legislation for safe operation of equipment due to maintenance of the probability of breakdown with specific levels of the severity of consequences in the area of permissible (acceptable) values and to provide permissible probability and risk of equipment breakdown.
