Abstract

A technology for centrifugal electroslag casting (CEC) is presented. CEC produces certain increases in the silicon and manganese concentrations, while substantially reducing the levels of harmful impurities. The mechanical characteristics from electroslag casting are better than those from open melting and differ only slightly from those of forged metal. The properties of the electroslag metal satisfy the requirements of GOST 8479-70 for forged metal with ordinary melting.
