Possibility of Determining the Characteristics of Fractional Composition of Heavy Oils from Optical Absorption Spectra

Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

It is shown that the fractional composition for heavy oils and gas oils of catalytic cracking can be estimated from the parameters of the optical absorption spectra. The characteristics of the normal distribution of the composition according to the true boiling point (TBP) curves were obtained by processing the experimental data using the Newton– Raphson optimization method. Relationships linking the average boiling points and the dispersion of the normal distribution law for the composition are established. The obtained relationships can be used to obtain initial estimates of the fractional composition of the feedstock and the efficiency of the fractionating columns of the refinery.
