Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

This paper considers use of plant biomass as a potential renewable raw material for production of CO2-neutral fuel that does not affect the carbon dioxide balance in the atmosphere. Evaluation of biomass characteristics will enable determination of the potential for its integration into modern processes of petrochemistry and biochemistry. The most common types of plant biomass in Russia, namely, wood wastes, peat, and microalgae, were investigated. The main characteristics of biomass and its structural and elemental composition are described. An estimation was made of the amount and energy value of some types of plant biomass.
