Small-Volume Viscometer for Determining the Kinematic Viscosity of Liquid Lubricants

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

A small-volume viscometer has been developed for measuring the viscosity of lubricating oils in the 40-140° cut range. A description is given of the viscometer’s principle of operation, which consists of measurement of the length of time that a ball is immersed in the test oil inside a beaker. The time (rate) of motion of the ball in the liquid is measured and recorded by a digital indicator. The results of calibration and measurement of the viscosity of various oils are reported.
