Model of a Thermoelectric Device for Heat Treatment of Reflexogenic Zones

  • Published:
Biomedical Engineering Aims and scope

A model of a thermoelectric device for application of heat to reflexogenic zones based on solution of a one-dimensional nonstationary heat conduction problem for a layered structure with boundary conditions of the second and third kind is considered. A numerical experiment yielded a relationship between changes in the “device–target” temperature in space and time coordinates for different values for the cooling capacity (heating capacity) of a thermoelectric battery (TEB) and different conditions of contact with the biological object. The temperature regime for these procedures was found to depend directly on TEB power. Losses at the acting tip due to its final thermal conductivity were of the order of 1.5 K, while losses due to looseness of the contact of the device with the target object were about 2 K. Comparison of theoretical and experimental data showed the accuracy of the model of the device to be acceptable (⩽7%).
