Abstract
In this paper, the fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) beam-column joint strengthening layout adopted by the researchers at University of Canterbury has been modified for real life structural engineering applications. A simplified analysis and design procedure has been proposed. The reported procedure has been validated against the past experimental work. Additional capacity by the FRP sheets has been assessed using the strength hierarchy assessment method. The local response of as-built and strengthened reinforced concrete beam-column joints has been related to the global base shear demand, resulting in base shear values corresponding to each damage state (e.g. joint shear failure, beam and column plastic hinging). It is showed that the analysis procedure for FRP joint strengthening used together with the strength hierarchy assessment method results in good agreement with the experimental work utilizing similar FRP strengthening layouts.
