Calculation of X-Ray Dose Loads in the Human Body Using Voxel Phantoms and the MCU Program

  • Published:
Atomic Energy Aims and scope

A benchmark experiment modeling two typical medical x-ray procedures – chest and abdominal x-rays – was calculated for the purpose of verifying the MCU computer program for performing calculations in the field of radiation medicine. The dose load calculations were performed with the aid of voxel phantoms developed by the ICRP for different sexes. Comparison of the absorbed dose calculated in this work and obtained by experts from the European Group on Radiation Dosimetry using the EGSnrc program confirmed the efficacy of the combined use of MCU and phantoms for calculations in the field of radiation medicine.
