Dose Calculations for Herbaceous Plants: Comparison of Two Methods

  • Published:
Atomic Energy Aims and scope

The herbaceous plant dose rate of external and internal β- and γ-radiation from 24 radionuclides was calculated using dose conversion factors and a migration-dosimetric model that is based on integrating the dose function of a point source of radiation. It was found that for most radionuclides the differences in the calculated values did not exceed 50% for internal and 20% for external irradiation. The results show that a migration-dosimetric model can be used for determining the plant radiation dose when the activity of radionuclides in the main components of biogeocenosis and biometric parameters of plants changes during the vegetative season.
