Reactivity on Coolant Dynamics in Modern Ship Reactor Plants

  • Published:
Atomic Energy Aims and scope

The self-protection of a ship reactor plant with a modern cassette core is discussed. A comparative analysis of the effectiveness of negative feedback in the cassette and conventional channel arrangement of the core of one of the innovative projects is presented. The investigations were conducted for reactivity accidents under identical model conditions. It is shown that almost all types of the considered emergency processes with significant deviations of the determining parameters are more effectively limited by the properties of the cassette arrangement. It is noted that the low inertia of the core coolant plays a positive role in keeping the reactor parameters within the bounds of safe operation during disturbances of various nature.
