Level-3 Probabilistic Safety Analysis for NPP Siting Decisions

  • Published:
Atomic Energy Aims and scope

The real and important problem of choosing a location for NPP sites is examined. It is shown that the methodology of VAB-3 level-3 probabilistic safety analysis can be used in support of decisions concerning the siting of NPP. Based on specific examples, numerical modeling of the probabilistic characteristics of the consequences of a severe accident was performed for three sites for a model NPP and the preferred ones from the standpoint of radiological consequences and the scale of countermeasures were identified.
