Abstract
A uniform collisionless interstellar or intergalactic medium with a constant magnetic field is considered. The reaction of this medium to a slowly varying electromagnetic field from external sources or generated in the medium itself is determined using an improved method which is more compact than the existing methods. Convenient formulas are obtained for determining the reaction of an interstellar or intergalactic medium in various wave number and frequency ranges and the characteristics of magnetoacoustic waves are discussed.
