Abstract

In this paper, Lie group of transformations method is used to investigate the self-similar solutions for the system of one-dimensional hydrodynamic equations describing the post-shock flow at the stellar surface. Necessary conditions for the existence of similarity solutions for strong shocks are obtained. The similarity exponent using Lie group of transformations and characteristic rule are obtained. Collapses of imploding cylindrical and spherical shocks are worked out in detail.
