Description of Pseudothermotoga hypogea comb. nov.
Pseudothermotoga hypogea (hy.po.ge’a. Gr. pron. hypo, under; Gr. n. ge, earth; N.L.fem. adj. hypogea, under the earth, referring to the site of isolation).
Basonym: Thermotoga hypogea (Fardeau et al. 1997).
In addition to the characteristics described by Fardeau et al. (1997), the species exhibits the traits listed in the genus description.
Type strain: SEBR 7054 = DSM 11164.
The Genbank accession number for the 16S rRNA gene of the type strain is U89768.
