Eur Radiol Suppl (2006) 16 (Suppl 1) : 150

During preparation of the manuscript for publication, it was discovered that the large patient database, which formed the basis for the findings we presented at ECR 2006 [as published in abstract B058 Section: B – Scientific Sessions, page 150], inadvertently included an undetermined number of patients who did not receive any contrast. In our analysis, it was assumed that all patients received either Gd-DTPA (Magnevist®) or Gd-DTPABMA (Omniscan®). However, in both groups some patients received no contrast in conjunction with their MRI exam. As a result of this error, which became known only after the abstract was published, we believe that our findings and conclusions as reported in the abstract need to be re-evaluated.

At this point, the data presented do not allow for any final conclusions regarding the interference of Gd-DTPA or Gd-DTPA-BMA with colorimetric serum calcium measurements, or regarding the incidence of spurious hypocalcemia after administration of either of the two MR contrast agents. We are currently re-analyzing the data and will report those results in the near future.
