Abstract
At the beginning of the twenty-first century, for the first time more data were stored digitally than in analogue form. Communication, knowledge exchange and access to information have significantly changed in recent years. Digital access channels shape everyday life. In intensive care medicine digital access and digital platforms are also indispensable prerequisites for practising medicine. Digital image processing is one example. Through telemedical platforms basic and standard care hospitals can be connected to maximum care hospitals and thus qualified medicine can be provided with the support of highly trained specialists. These projects are currently being promoted through scientific funding and can support further technological development and nationwide provision of highly specialized medical care. Against the background of the shortage of skilled workers, the aging population and unstoppable technical progress, it is essential that medical experts help to shape the technical future.
