Abstract
The lungs are often affected by malignant disease, and can be affected in many different ways. The lungs are both the primary and the metastatic site of multiple different tumor entities. In addition to systemic treatment in patients with lung metastases, positive experiences have shown that surgical resections of lung lesions may be discussed in selected cases. Moreover, the lung can be affected indirectly by cancer, e. g., by an increased risk of thrombosis and lung embolism. Finally, systemic, radiologic, and surgical treatment can impair pulmonary function. These various scenarios of lung involvement are summarized. Important and clinically relevant examples are highlighted.
