La tumeur cérébrale: un cancer pas comme les autres

Résumé:

La tumeur cérébrale se révèle de façon insidieuse, brutale, souvent par un signe neurologique déconcertant. L’impact psychologique est précoce et double.

L’annonce de la malignité et l’emplacement de la lésion laissent libre cours aux fantasmes et peurs collectives liées au cancer mais aussi au cerveau. Parfois, l’intrication de symptômes neurologiques et psychiques s’avère étroite avec une causalité de type circulaire.

Une concertation multidisciplinaire (médecin-oncologue, neuropsychologue, psychologue clinicien) est alors utile pour mieux appréhender le patient dans la complexité de ses réactions. La présentation de trois cas cliniques l’illustre bien.

La neuro-oncologie est un domaine où, souvent, l’approche globale et multidimensionnelle du patient est une évidence qui s’impose dans nos pratiques respectives.

Abstract:

A brain tumor is generally revealed in an insidious, brutal fashion, and often by a very disconcerting neurological sign. The psychological repercussions are immediate, and made worse by the diagnosis of a cancerous lesion which is on the brain, giving way to a multitude of collective fears.

At times, the neurological and the psychological symptoms are difficult to distinguish.

A multidisciplinary collaboration between the oncologist, the neuropsychologist and the clinical psychologist gives a better understanding of the patient and of the complexity of his reactions. This point is addressed by three case studies.

Neuro-oncology is a field where more often than not, the global and multidimensional approach to the patient parallels our practice.
