Abstract

The anamorphic form of powdery mildew is the most common form in Brazil. Traditionally, this group of fungi has been classified based on morphological characteristics and host species. This study was designed to determine the species involved in a severe occurrence of powdery mildew on Clitoria fairchildiana in northeastern Brazil. Based on morphology, molecular analyses and pathogenicity tests of fungal samples, anamorphic Erysiphe quercicola was recognized as the powdery mildew on C. fairchildiana. This is the first report of E. quercicola causing powdery mildew on this species in Brazil.
