Efficient photoreduction of carbon dioxide into carbon-based fuels: a review

Abstract

The photocatalytic transformation of carbon dioxide into fuels is viewed as a promising solution to lessen global warming and to enter a circular economy, yet this photocatalytic process is commonly limited by low conversion efficiency and unpredictable reduction products. Here, we review recent strategies developed for improving the performance of photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide with emphasis on boosting photoadsorption, improving carrier separation, and enhancing reactant adsorption.
