Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Background
The role of cerebral cavernomas in acute symptomatic seizures.
Objective
Do first-ever seizures in cerebral cavernomas represent acute symptomatic seizures?
Material and methods
Summary and discussion of selected and relevant literature.
Results
Epileptic seizures occur in 23–50% of patients with cavernomas. The risk of first-ever seizures is 1.5–2.4% per year. The risk of seizure recurrence after a first seizure is 94% and according to the definition is therefore an epilepsy.
Conclusion
Seizures in cerebral cavernomas indicate a beginning epilepsy and therefore do not represent acute symptomatic seizures.
