Abstract

Phellinus linteus (PL) is a promising mycelium according to in vitro or to animal studies, its polysaccharides decrease the risk of metastasis and favour the apoptosis of several tumour cells. PL is an anti-angiogenetic or a hepatoprotective agent and synergizes with doxorubicine. It contains hispidine, which modulates the TH1/TH2 balance et reduces the synthesis of IgE. PL reduces joint or gut inflammation and demonstrates anti-oxidative properties. An anti-TH17 effect could protect Langerhans cells. Hispidin inhibits beta-secretases, implicated in Alzheimer disease occurrence. These interesting experimental properties forecast clinical trials.
