Abstract
The Internet of Things would not be possible without the rapid technological progress in the telecommunication sector during the past decades towards All-IP broadband networks. The transformation of the traditional network industries into intelligent networks is strongly dependent on the quality guarantees of data packet transmission required by smart bidirectional metering, sensors, actuators and remote control, enabling interactive machine-to-machine communication. Of particular importance is the interaction between the physical world and complementary virtual networks.
