Beschäftigungseffekte der Digitalisierung — eine Klarstellung

Zusammenfassung

Die aktuellen Entwicklungen der digitalen Technik eröffnen große Rationalisierungspotenziale und beschleunigen den Strukturwandel. Dies wird in der öffentlichen Debatte mit der Sorge um Arbeitsplätze verbunden. Ob diese Arbeitsplatzverluste auftreten ist allerdings eine offene Frage, denn die positiven Wachstums- und Beschäftigungseffekte der Informationstechnik werden häufig vernachlässigt. Die zu erwartenden Auswirkungen einer beschleunigten Digitalisierung auf die deutsche Wirtschaft werden mithilfe der Prognose „Arbeitsmarkt 2030“ aufgezeigt.

Abstract

This article presents a forward-looking analysis of the employment effects of digital technologies and an answer to the single sided and false description of job risks by Frey/Osborne and others. The paper describes the effects from three angles: (1) From a theoretical viewpoint, it explains the principal relationship between technological change and employment. (2) From the analytical viewpoint, it identifies the peculiarities of digital markets. (3) From the future-oriented viewpoint, it quantifies the expected effects of accelerated digitisation on German labour markets, based on Economix’s long term forecast. This is done by looking at both structural transition and the balance of jobs at the macro level.
