Alopecia: causes of suffering

Abstract:

A chemo-induced alopecia (CIA) experience is eminently personal because it is inscribed in a context proper to each patient. This context is composed of various dimensions: cultural, individual (gender, age, family and professional situation) and medical (trajectory of the disease). According to the way these various elements combine, and to their evolution during the disease, it will be more or less difficult for the patient to deal with the cancer stigma constituted by CIA. Patients work to organize into a hierarchy the various troubles caused by cancer and its treatments. This hierarchy of the patient can strongly differ from the hierarchy of close relations or the medical staff.
