Abstract
This is an invited view of the research topics likely to challenge limnologists during the early years of the twenty-first century. The annotated list of topics nominated is personal and is not intended to be comprehensive, but it ranges over developments in the understanding of limnological processes, the refinement of methodologies founded on rapid advances in technology, and the enhancement of the application of science to critical issues in resource management. However, better ways of valuing, transferring, and even organizing limnological science need to be devised.
