Abstract
Colonoscopy is widely used to explore colonic pathology, such as for screening colon cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. It is a medical and technical procedure and complications may occur. Complications could be minor: post-colonoscopy bloating; or major: colonic perforation requiring a surgical treatment in some cases. Colonoscopy is associated with significant higher morbid-mortality in elderly patients. We discuss in this article the incidence of minor and major complications related to diagnostic colonoscopy.
