Abstract

The confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is a new endoscopic technology that enables us to make an histological diagnosis during the endoscopy. The technique is based on the properties of tissue fluorescence. In the upper as in the lower digestive tract, this technique is used to detect histological abnormalities so as to perform target biopsies and consequently to increase the diagnostic yield of mucosal biopsies. This review selects the main studies that determined the interest of CLE in each part of the digestive tract.
