The ovoid S. scabiei body is visible inside the hyporefractive burrow. Two of the four anterior legs including the coxa are clearly discernible as coiled structures protruding longitudinally from the body. The head is vaguely discernible as an irregularly refractive rhomboid structure between the anterior legs. The hyperrefractive caudal third of the body constituting the alimentary tract is seen pulsating due to physiological peristalsis of the parasite gut indicating viability of the mite (MOV 24 kb)
