Abstract:
Kinetic energy time-of-flight (KETOF) mass spectroscopy in combination with femtosecond pump-probe and molecular beam techniques is used to map molecular dynamics along an internuclear coordinate. By recording transient KETOF mass spectra we monitor the vibrational wave-packet motion on a neutral electronic state for all possible internuclear distances simultaneously. The power of this method is demonstrated by the one dimensional wave-packet motion on the double minimum state of the sodium dimer. For comparison with the experiment quantum mechanical simulations were performed.
