Abstract
More and more people in the western hemisphere live alone, being singles from conviction or because they lost their life partners. Singles in a medical psychological emergency often only rely on themselves and may even end up in life-threatening situations with the danger of serious consequential health damages if the emergency remains undetected for a lengthy period of time. Electronic emergency surveillance might provide better safety for this category of people. They monitor the effected persons around the clock, detect medical or psychological emergencies and provide proactive assistance in case of indications for critical health developments. The paper provides an overview of the state of the art on the topic of electronic emergency surveillance.
