Zusammenfassung

Seit dem Jahr 2000 besteht die Universitätsklinik für Notfallmedizin am Allgemeinen Krankenhaus in Wien. Die Klinik gliedert sich in die Notfallambulanz, die Akutbehandlungs- bzw. Intensivstation und die Überwachungsstation. In der Notfallambulanz werden Notfälle aller Fachbereiche mit Ausnahme der Traumatologie, Psychiatrie, Pädiatrie und Neonatologie versorgt. Die Patienten werden von einer diplomierten Krankenschwester erstbegutachtet und dann dem jeweiligen Facharzt zugeleitet. So werden innerhalb von 24 h bis zu 400 Patienten versorgt. Die Versorgung lebensbedrohlicher Notfälle erfolgt auf der Akutbehandlungsstation. Hier erfolgt die diagnostische Abklärung und initiale Stabilisierung der Notfallpatienten. Zur Klinik für Notfallmedizin gehört zudem noch die Notfallstation, die als Beobachtungsstation konzipiert ist, sodass hier Patienten betreut werden, bei denen eine akute Lebensbedrohung nicht auszuschließen ist. Durch die interdisziplinäre Kooperation kann in der Wiener Universitätsklinik für Notfallmedizin rund um die Uhr eine optimale Patientenversorgung erreicht werden.

Abstract

The University Clinic for Emergency Medicine at the General Hospital in Vienna has been in existence since 2000. The clinic is divided into the emergency room, the acute care and intensive care unit, and the observation ward. The emergency room treats emergency cases involving all disciplines except traumatology, psychiatry, pediatrics, and neonatology. The patients are first assessed by a registered nurse and then referred to the appropriate medical specialist. Up to 400 patients are thus managed within a 24-h time frame. Life-threatening emergencies are treated in the acute care unit, which performs the diagnostic work-up and ensures initial stabilization of the emergency patients. The Clinic for Emergency Medicine further houses the emergency department conceived as an observation ward for monitoring those patients in whom an acute threat to life cannot be excluded. The interdisciplinary cooperation practiced in the Viennese University Clinic for Emergency Medicine provides optimal patient care around the clock.
