Abstract

The treatment of soft tissue lesions and infection in orthopaedic and trauma patients represents a significant challenge for the treating clinic. Physicians and patients are confronted with comorbidity and often prolonged treatment. Personnel and material requirements are high in reconstructive surgery. Therapeutic options need to be individualized. Amputations are not always avoidable and sometimes represent the only viable treatment option. Plastic surgery procedures to reconstruct soft tissue coverage and function are presented here.
