Abstract

Acute posttraumatic pain results from injuries to the lower extremity. Such acute pain can be the initial step in the development of chronic pain. The main aim of treatment for pain is to prevent pain from becoming chronic, or in the case of pain that is already chronic, to counteract the processes leading to its perpetuation. This goal cannot be achieved without interdisciplinary teamwork. Only an interdisciplinary approach can make it possible to treat chronic pain within its biopsychosocial modes of development and ultimately to achieve social and economic reintegration of the patient.
