Abstract

The use of criticality classes to assess a cooling failure, also described in the guideline TRAS410, is shown. By assessing four temperatures, 5 different criticality classes can be defined. These temperatures contain the thermodynamic information required to define the behavior of a reaction mass during the beginning stage of a runaway and can be used to assess the probability of interrupting a starting runaway and to design of protection measures.

Zusammenfassung

In dieser Publikation werden die 5 Kritikalitätsklassen zur Beurteilung des Kühlpannenszenarios im Rahmen der TRAS410 dargestellt. Mit Hilfe von 4 Temperaturen lassen sich die Kritikalitätsklassen definiert. Diese Temperaturen enthalten die thermodynamischen und kinetischen Informationen und können deshalb zur Charakterisierung einer beginnenden Runawayreaktion herangezogen werden. Sie dienen daher zur Beurteilung der Erfolgschancen einen anlaufenden Runaway zu unterbrechen und zur Auslegung geeigneter Schutzmassnahmen.
