The Le Châtelier Principle: How Much a Principle?

Abstract

The Principle of Le Châtelier is analyzed for the case of reactions taking place with real gases. The Principle, as usually stated in textbooks, is true only for ideal gas mixtures, and may be violated when the nonideal behavior of a gas is taken into consideration.
