Dear JBIC readers and SBIC members,

I hope you will enjoy this special issue of the Journal of Biological Inorganic Chemistry. Lucia Banci and Claudio Luchinat have organized this double issue in recognition of Ivano Bertini, who was the journal’s founding editor.

It is also a pleasure to congratulate Akif Tezcan of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego, who was selected as the 2014 SBIC Early Career Award Winner! Akif will deliver his award lecture at ICBIC17, July 20–24, 2015 in Beijing, China.

This summer and fall bring a wealth of bioinorganic conferences. The official “BIC” conferences all meet, beginning with the 4th Latin American Meeting on Biological Inorganic Chemistry (LABIC 2014), August 5–8, 2014 in Chascomús, Argentina, https://eventioz.com.ar/e/iv-latin-american-meeting-on-biological-inorganic.

The 12th European Biologic Inorganic Chemistry Conference (EuroBIC 12) will be held at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, August 24–28, 2014, http://www.bioinorganic-chemistry.org/eurobic12/ and the 7th Asian Biological Inorganic Chemistry Conference is being held on the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia this year from November 30, 2014 to December 4, 2014, http://www.asbic7.org/.

Even before the first satellite BIC, many other bioinorganic conferences will convene, including:

  • The Bioinorganic-Training-Workshop at Pennsylvania State University, May 28–June 4, 2014;

  • Frontiers in Metallobiochemistry III, June 4–7, 2014 at Pennsylvania State University;

  • The 2014 FASEB Summer Research Conference on Trace Elements in Biology and Medicine, June 1–6, 2014;

  • The Iron–Sulfur Enzymes GRC June 25–20, 2014;

  • The Metals in Medicine GRC June 22–27, 2014;

  • The Biometals 2014, July 13–18, 2014 at Duke University;

Keep renewing your memberships and bringing younger scientists into SBIC!
